AFC Talentime 2007

Posted in Blogroll, Brunei, Events, Friends, Life on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 by Colin Quek

Had the wonderful honour to be part of Agape Family Center’s Talentime 2007. And Talented the members were. I was treated to such a display of creativity and professional stagemanship, that I have to give them 2 thumbs up.

One thing I would have wanted to add to the photo would have been a short few words from the winners though.

The winners for the night…you can imagine the number of the entire talentime participants.

And not to forget the Judges. One of whom is Mr. Clement Chow, who performed the famous “Count on me Singapore” (the official National Day Song for Singapore).

Really am looking forward to AFC Talentime 2008.

Singapore’s National Day 2007

Posted in Blogroll, Events, Life on Saturday, August 11, 2007 by Colin Quek

Every August 9th is set aside to celebrate the national day of the Republic of Singapore. Since its independence 42 years ago, Singapore has grown from a tiny fishing village to a prospering major cosmopolitan city.

Having always been at the forefront of many industries, Singapore (affectionately known as Lion City) has won international accolades in the arena of: Airline, Seaport, Education, Governance, etc. Usually attaining the #1 or top 10 spots.

This year’s celebration is another major breakthrough for us. For 13 months we build a floating platform large enough to hold 27,000 people. Again this is a world first.

With Prime Minister Lee’s confidence that we will grow 7% to 8, Singapore is poised for another great year ahead. As the anthem goes…

Majulah Singapura (Malay for Onward Singapore)

Without further ado, here is a simple snapshot of us as we congregate to wish Singapore a very Happy Birthday.

This shot is really testament to the multi-racial harmony success of Singapore. We work as one People, we grow and enjoy as one People.

Festival of Praise (FOP) 2007

Posted in Events on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 by Colin Quek

3rd – 5th Aug 2007 marks another exciting and invigorating installment of the annual Festival of Praise event. Started in the year 1986 by Rev Dr. Canon James Wong. With participation from various churches all over Singapore such as City Harvest Church, FOP has anchored itself as a major Christian event.

This year with international bands like Don Moen and Delirious, the venue was packed to the brim.

Coupled with the preaching prowess of Phil Pringle, the participants truly experienced this year’s slogan: “Come! Be Renewed!”

We just never know

Posted in Friends, Life on Saturday, August 4, 2007 by Colin Quek

Was at a cafe chilling out on a cool Friday Bruneian night when I got news that an ex-classmate of mine has just passed away of cancer. I couldn’t express the thoughts and emotions that swept through me. I was tempted to believe I’ve heard it wrongly because of the nature of overseas calls.

But as I asked the caller(another ex-classmate) to repeat his message, I guess I had to let reality sink in that I’ve truly lost a friend in the battle against cancer. Someone whom I was just having a short conversation a few months ago. And my friend is only 33 years old. This is the 2nd such case I’ve heard in the span of 1 week!

Another case is the case of Desmond Chin. He’s a 20 year old Bruneian. Who is also in the midst of the battle against this terrible disease. And it seems the entire nation of Brunei has been mobilised to help Desmond before its too late.
